Milk Handling & Quality Control

Dairy producers put tremendous effort into providing a high-quality product for consumers. The quality of milk is never higher than when it leaves the cow. Proper milk handling is vital to protect milk quality from the cow to the glass. This chapter will:

  • Review regulations related to inspections and milk testing
  • Review milk cooling requirements
  • Outline bulk transport and uniform sample procedures
  • Review milk quality tests at the plant
  • Address milk processing, bottling and labeling
  • Provide advice to consumers on proper milk handling
